Lucy the Elephant’s fundrasing concert has its headliner. None other than singer (and author) Deana Martin will grace the Resorts Casino Hotel stage on Dec. 11, helping pay for restorations to Margate landmark Lucy the Elephant.
Daughter of Dean Martin, iconic comedian, entertainer and singer, Deana Martin made her first appearance in 1966, on The Dean Martin Show.
On Dec. 11, 2022, she will be backed by an 18-piece orchestra and a Frank Sinatra tribute artist, Steven Maglio.
Deana Martin last performed in Atlantic City in 2015.
“We are beyond thrilled that Deana is sharing her extraordinary talent and famous family history with us,” said Richard Helfant, executive director of the Save Lucy Committee.
The Margate landmark is undergoing renovations, lasting longer than expected – according to Helfant who, in the early 80s, was a junior executive at Resorts, working closely with Sinatra and Dean Martin. He said the restoration effort is, “In month 13 of what was supposed to be an eight-month project and close to $1 million over budget.” It appears bad weather, a burst sprinkler pipe and supply chain issues have led to massive delays and run up the cost of the project. Still, it is expected to be wrapped by the end of the year.
The Superstar Theatre, at the Resort, was Atlantic City’s first casino-era showroom, and where Dean Martin performed with Sinatra in the 1980s.
“Rat Pack” singers have graced many of Atlantic City’s stages for years from Sinatra, to Harry James, Tommy Dorsey, Jerry Lewis and, of course, Dean Martin.
