The acquisition of Sideplay Entertainment, a digital iLottery content provider, by Scientific Games Corporation has allowed the company to extend its digital portfolio further.
Aside from the Sideplay arrangement, Scientific Games announced intentions to sell its lottery and sports betting operations in late June to deleverage the company and free up funds for future digital investment.
The iLottery game portfolio of Scientific Games will be expanded to incorporate all of Sideplay’s content, pending approval from regulatory authorities.
When Sideplay Entertainment was founded in 2003, it had already developed more than 270 quick-win games, including Sherlock Holmes, Mouse Trap, and Bubble Burst Bingo, which had together been played more than 100 million times. Sideplay is also the primary supplier of digital instant games to the National Lottery of the United Kingdom.
It comes after Scientific Games finalized its acquisition of gaming content company Lightning Box earlier this month to enhance its digital market growth strategy. The deal is still subject to regulatory clearance.
The financial specifics of the transaction were not disclosed. Still, Scientific Games claimed that the purchase would help the company achieve its strategic goal of becoming a content-led sustainable growth company while also strengthening its in-house studios.
